Mis Flores Favoritas

Roses are red, violets are blue…WHO cares about those ugly flowers?!

It’s all about persian buttercups, also known as ranunculus. :)  It has been said that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, and roses put a smile on her face. I disagree. I will take one of these lovely flowers any day. The color is rich, and the many layers of petals is gorgeous.  If you want to make ME smile, give me one or two of these.  :D

But sometimes that flower is a bit too much for me, and I prefer the elegance and structure of a fine flower.  You may have seen many gardens and church decorations with the famous white calla lily, and I’m not knockin’ it down.  I just prefer a more vibrant look to it. And I find that vibrance in the purple calla lily as well as the mango mini calla lily.

Can’t think of a gift to say “I love you, I’m sorry, You’re the best Dre,” then these are the flowers for me. :D

 HAVE A GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT DAY!

P.S. Not far from the list are colorful dahlias and gerbera daisies. :)

Lelly

First and foremost goes credit to Ana Paula Rimoli. I used her pattern. But I can’t blame her for my lousy embroidery. Arg! I had a little (no, I’m lying. I had ALOT) of difficulty crocheting and stuffing his nose. And of course I had trouble with making him look like an elephant. My family kept saying “Dre, he looks like a dog! Is it supposed to be a dog?” And I kept telling them, “NOOOO. It’s supposed to be an elephant.” Now everytime they see an elephant in a commercial, billboard, or picture, they nudge me and say, “Dre, THAT’S an elephant!”

So this is Lelly. He’ll be making his way soon to Fresno. I heard it was chilly there at night so I made him a little scarf to keep warm. What do you think?

Ottopus

May 13, 2008

They call me OTTOpus.I am getting grief because I filter out all my frustrations into my yarn. My mom says, “Why don’t you get a mop and take it out on the floor, or better yet, grab a sponge and wash the dishes?” :)  But I know she understands me when I do my little amigurumi dolls because she filters her frustration through her guitar playing.  Erg. That reminds me that I need to buy some decent ear plugs. :)

But enough about being frustrated. This is the newest to the collection. His name is Ottopus. He’s an octopus named Otto. The name was inspired by a novela I watch called “Lola: Erase Una Ves” where the youngest of the family is a mischievous boy named Otto. And I got the pattern off my Ana Paula book.  That’s about it. But Otto isn’t on Mom’s window sill. As a matter of fact, I brought everyone into my room. :) I have 8 of them!

And as you can see, the octopus is legitimate. He has 8 legs (stubby as they may be), but he has ALL 8. :)  So tell me what you think. You like?  Here’s what everyone else has commented on Ottopus.  “Why is he green? Aren’t octopuses supposed to be somewhat red/orange?” ”What is THAT supposed to be? And why does it have things sticking out of it?”  “You call THOSE tentacles?”

Give me feedback por favor. Thanks bunches.

Panda-monium

May 4, 2008

My First Mini Ami PandaPandemonium is considered a wild uproar or unrestrained disorder, and which can be ordinarily found in a Mexico vs. (any country that is particularly good and competitive) soccer game or a crazy rock concert. Everything is just out of control. Similarly is this new word I have to introduce. Panda-monium.

Panda-monium is a fanaticism for the mammal PANDA bear.  For some reason I find the creatures to be beautiful, soft, cuddly, and oddly, lazy as they are, well behaved.  Everytime I happen to go to a zoo, I always ask for the monkeys and of course, the panda exhibit. Just love them.

So with the skills acquired from my Ana Paula book and her pattern for a mini ami bear, I “skillfully” with my little fingers and an E and F hook constructed this little guy named PANDO.  He’s got a big head and little arms and legs like his master. But as my friend Veronica used to say, “We are not small. We’re fun-sized.” Pando is now part of the collection, and mischieviously grins on top of my mother’s kitchen window sill along with Mr. Mousey. So that’s my latest creation. What shall come next? Hmmmm…any suggestions?

Mousey

So I started crocheting via amigurumi style, and I tried using tutorials online like I usually do (I usually go on Teresa’s channel), but it just wasn’t working for me. So I decided to get an expert’s advice and purchased a book (the only one at Barnes and Noble that looked super decent and easy to follow direction). And so I started making a baby monkey’s head. And I used white yarn because for one, my eyes are really bad with artificial light. And two, I like to read my stitches and count them just in case I lose count in my head. So when I finished the last decrease, and took a long stare at my amigurumi creature, I found him to be more of a mousey than a monkey. Thus was the birth of Mr. Mouse. I was so proud of myself that I perched him on Mom’s kitchen window sill. She HATES mice, but says this one is too cute she could hardly find it in her heart to call it repulsive. I think that’s a positive note towards my first amigurumi animal. :) Thanks to Ana Paula Rimoli and her book entitled Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet I’ll be able to make lots and lots of those make-you-want-to-squee-with-joy goodies. YAY!

Yummy Leftovers

Yummy Leftovers

Leftovers. Leftover turkey in a sandwich. Leftover chicken in a salad. Leftovers. They’re yummy in every sense, and that includes YARN. For these past 5 years that I picked up crocheting, I always end up with odds and ends of a skein of yarn. And I never seem to know what to do with it. About 2 years ago, I completed my dreamer blanket(after the biblical Joseph the Dreamer who had divine and revelatory images in his dreams). But even so, I still managed to have loads of leftovers. And just the other day my sister (who I shamelessly instructed and made her an addict of the hook and yarn) gave up her leftovers because she needed to clean out her closet (she’s not giving up the crocheting, just making room for her new lifestyle of being a married woman). And what to do with them? I could do lots and lots of granny squares. NAH. I found something better. It’s called amigurumi (pronounced ah-mee-goo-roo-mee) and it means (correct me if I’m wrong) single crochet in the round. Let’s see what cutey creations come out of these yummy leftovers. :)
